CLOSE to 400 jobseekers were hired for construction work during a series of job fairs held by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) across various regions.
In a statement, DOLE reported that 395 jobseekers were hired on the spot (HOTS) during the job fairs conducted across 14 regions in late March 2026.
“Of the jobseekers who participated, 395 HOTS were provided immediate employment opportunities,” said DOLE.
According to the Department, a total of 28,986 construction and related industry job vacancies were offered during the job fairs held on March 25, 26, and 30.
The job fairs drew a total of 2,166 jobseekers, DOLE added.
“The job fairs were designed with a sectoral focus, particularly on construction and related industries, enabling more targeted matching between displaced workers and available employment opportunities,” the agency said.
Earlier, the Philippine Statistics Authority noted that the rise in the country’s unemployment rate can be partly attributed to the loss of about 550,000 jobs in the construction industry.
The massive job loss has been linked to reduced public construction spending amid the ongoing flood control projects controversy.
