The victim was identified as Gilbert Albaño Basan, 41, a resident of Sitio Manlubog, Barangay Ipil.
The assailant, believed to be coming from the area, is still at large.
Chief Master Sergeant Arniel Manos, case investigator from Carmen Police Station, said in an interview with SunStar Cebu that the victim was returning home after work when he was waylaid by the still unidentified assailant in a bushy area.
Manos said the victim had to leave his motorcycle behind as their house is located uphill and the only way to get there is through a secluded and quiet place.
Basan succumbed to three stab wounds in his chest.
Manos believed robbery was the motive in the incident as the victim’s sling bag containing P24,000 had vanished.
He said that according to the child of the victim, their father had just claimed the money sent by his wife, who is working abroad, on Wednesday.
He said the assailant might have known that the victim was carrying a big amount of money. (GPL/TPT)
