The Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas – Cebu Chapter general assembly was held on Thursday, August 17, at the IEC Convention Center in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City, with more than 1,000 village chiefs attending from all around the Cebu province.
“Ako lang ning hangyo kanus-a paman ta mag-usab?…Hangyo gyud ni nako, mag rally man mo, mangampanya man mo, diha lang kutob sa isyu walay personalay, walay libakay kay lisod kaayo magbalikay human sa eleksiyon,” Garcia said on Thursday.
(My only request is when we’re going to change, that’s my plea, whether you have a rally or campaign, let’s focus on the problem and not mention personal concerns or criticize somebody since it’s difficult to reconcile after the election.)
She continued by saying that she was aware of each candidate’s personal struggles, but she made it clear that the provincial government would not meddle in those concerns.
The governor instructed the barangay captains to talk about their accomplishments and goals for the barangay when they begin campaigning in order to avoid hurting their political rivals.
Garcia advised the losing party to concede defeat in order to prevent trouble.
“Ang akong hangyo kung naa man moy mga kontra palihog kutob lang sa baba ang away, puwede sad kinusiay ayaw sad sinumbagay, kung kinsa man ang mogawas nga mananaog labi na sa barangay ibalik ang pagbinatiay. Ang baba ayaw pasubrahi, isyu por isyu lang ayaw i-apil ang mga personal,” Garcia said.
(My advice is to engage your opponents in verbal rather than physical combat, and to greet the winner of the barangay election. Don’t overstate things; instead, concentrate on them issue by issue and away from personal matters).
Garcia wished for the province to serve as a model for a peaceful and orderly election. (ANV, TPT)
