DTI launches ‘FiestaKusta’ to promote local creative industry in Central Visayas

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI 7) hosted its first “FiestaKucha Cebu”: Regional Creative Festival in Central Visayas in order to recognize and gain greater support from the local creative industry.

The event’s ceremonial launching was presided over by DTI 7 Director Maria Elena “Nanette” Arbon at the Waterfront Cebu Hotel and Casino in Cebu City on Friday, September 8, 2023.

According to Arbon, the month-long FiestaKucha Cebu event, which coincides with the commemoration of 2023 Philippine Creative Industries Month (PCIM) this September, will serve as a platform to promote local creatives not just throughout the regions but also throughout the whole nation.

Arbon emphasized that the Central Visayas region is fertile ground for creatives and that, with the event’s launch, a variety of activities were planned for September to showcase creativity, artistic expression, and innovation.

Activities also include conferences, learning sessions, exhibitions, makeathons, and competitions.

In order to encourage local creatives and artists and promote both economic and cultural progress, FiestaKucha was created, according to Arbon, by combining the words “fiesta,” which refers to a Filipino tradition, and “pecha kucha,” which is a Japanese storytelling format. (EHP)
