POLICEMEN in Central Visayas will help monitor compliance to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Executive Order (EO) 39, which sets a price ceiling for regular milled rice at P41 per kilogram and well-milled rice at P45 per kilogram in the entire country.

The EO 39 took effect last Tuesday, September 5.

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Gerard Ace Pelare, spokesperson for Police Regional Office (PRO 7) Director Brigadier General Anthony Aberin, the Department of Justice has directed them to carry out the directive in Central Visayas.

Pelare said offenders might be detained and charged.

“There is a law passed mag penalize kinsa tong mo violate sa ceiling nga gi mandate sa balaod. If you can see naay report among imbestigahan, then we will arrest people or file charges in court,” Pelare said.

(There is a law that penalizes individuals who break the price ceiling. If there is a complaint, we will investigate it, make an arrest, or file a case in court.)

Pelare stressed, however, that because some rice traders are still getting rid of their old rice stocks, which sell at higher prices, they will communicate with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on when they would arrest violators.

The police official asked the general public to assist them in keeping an eye on the price of rice in the market since they were the ones who frequently visited the area to buy goods. (AYB, TPT)
