THE Police Regional Office (PRO 7) has started conducting an inventory of possible areas of concern and hot spots for the Barangay and SK Elections (BSKE) in October 2023.

The composite teams of the Commission on Elections, Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines will meet to establish a Regional Joint Security Control Center for the upcoming elections.

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Gerard Ace Pelare, the spokesperson of PRO 7, they are currently monitoring the areas where troubles broke out during the previous elections.

Pelare anticipated that the Philippine National Police (PNP) will begin drafting its security plan for the BSKE by next month.

At the moment, Pelare said one of the areas that PRO 7 Director Brigadier General Anthony Aberin wanted to monitor is Negros Oriental, where late governor Roel Degamo and eight other civilians were gunned down inside his residential compound in Pamplona town last March 4.

“Of course, Negros is one of the priority areas considering the development in the area weeks ago,” Pelare added.

Aberin had earlier ordered all police station chiefs in the Central Visayas to monitor all barangays under their jurisdiction to prevent chaos from happening.

On March 14, 2023, Manguiao, Asturias barangay captain Mario Tundag, and his wife Edna were fatally shot on a motorcycle in front of Asturias Central Elementary School.

The police are investigating if politics played a role in the incident. (AYB, TPT)
