Cebu City election officer: No major problems encountered with filing COCs

NO major problems have been encountered on the first two days of filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataaan Election (SBKE) in Cebu City.

The COCs are accepted from August 28 to September 2, 2023.

Cebu City North District Election supervisor Ferdinand Gujilde made this announcement during the City Joint Security Control Center meeting between the Commission on Election (Comelec), the Cebu City Police Office, Armed Forces of the Philippines and the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency on Wednesday, August 30.

Gujilde claimed that they did not encounter any major problem except for minor issues, such as forms not being approved due to technicality.

“Ang atong problema nga nasugatan kanang wala magka dimao ang mga forms, molansar siyag kapitan ang iyang nagamit konsehal mga ingun ana. Simple things but crucial kay basig mausab ang imong position so bantayanan na siya,” Gujilde said.

(The problems we encountered are the forms being mixed-up; some candidates for barangay captains submitted forms intended for barangay councilors. Simple things but crucial because the position you are vying for may change, so this should be monitored).

He explained that majority of candidates for SK chairman were disqualified because they were too old, and advised to run for barangay councilor instead.

Meanwhile, Police Lieutenant Colonel Janette Rafter, the deputy city director for operation of the CCPO, said no arrests have been made at Comelec checkpoints since the election period began on August 28.

Rafter believes that the Cebuanos may already be aware that police checkpoints will be set up at the start of the election season, when Comelec gun ban will also be in effect.

She urged those who have firearms with expired licenses to surrender their weapons to the nearest police station for safekeeping.(AYB, TPT)
