The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) deployed 220 police personnel for the occasion.
At 3 a.m. on Monday, they walked the parade route from the Fuente Osmeña Circle to the Plaza Independencia via General Maxilom Avenue, accompanied by Mayor Michael Rama, to ensure the streets were secure.
According to CCPO Director Colonel Ireneo Dalogdog, the deployed police were also tasked to assist members of the City Transportation Office since some of the streets were temporarily closed to traffic.
Due to the intensified preparation of his office and the different departments of City Hall, Dalogdog said police stations in the city did not record a single crime, as of 3 p.m.
“It was generally considered peaceful. Makita naman nato kaganina nga very festive ang pag-celebrate sa maong okasyon adunay mga different agencies, mga barangay ang nag-perform didto sa Plaza Independencia (We could see earlier that the occasion was festive with different agencies and barangays performing at the Plaza),” he said.
Around 30 people belonging to cause-oriented groups demonstrated along Magallanes Street near the University of San Jose-Recoletos, but that, too, went off without a hitch.
In fact, the CCPO director said, there was no need to send members of the Civil Disturbance Management to watch over the protest.
The Police Regional Office in Central Visayas raised the alert status on Sunday, June 11, but lowered it as soon as the programs of local government units in the region ended on Monday. (AYB, PJB)
