A 16-year-old boy was killed when a coconut tree fell on him around 9 a.m. on Thursday, September 21, in Sitio Tagaytay in the mountain barangay of Ampongol in Sogod town, northern Cebu.
The victim was identified as James Marvie Brigoli Apor, 16, a resident of the said place.
According to Patrolman Panfilo Escoton Jr. of Sogod Municipal Police Station, the victim was walking towards his home during heavy rain when one of the coconut trees fell and knocked him over.
Escoton said the coconut tree had become weaker after its portion was eaten by coco worms, and when the strong wind struck, it fell.
The man was pronounced dead on the scene by responding personnel from the Sogod Police Station and Sogod Rural Health Unit headed by Dr. Yaphete John Cabalo. (DVG, TPT)
