Another student in Barili ‘possessed by evil spirit’; school to hold monthly Mass

TEACHERS and students of Patupat National High School in Barili town, southwest Cebu, have been praying the Holy Rosary daily and have scheduled a monthly Mass after some students were reportedly possessed by evil spirits.

Susan Roxas, principal of Patupat National High School, said another student was possessed by an evil spirit on Monday, April 3, 2023. The incident on Monday was the third in less than a month.

On March 14, 13 students were attended to by their teachers and classmates, while on March 20, another 20 students were again “possessed by evil spirits.”

Fr. Reynaldo Cui, who performed the exorcism rites on March 14, described the incident as a “mass hysteria.”

Roxas said she was not around when the third incident happened, but she was informed about it.

“Nangutana man ko sa teacher. Naa man koy gitawagan nga adviser human nga nahibalo ko nga duna na pud nasudlan. Ang katong bataa pag gikan nila sa ilang balay, naghilom-hilom ra gyud daw to. Ang birhen sa Fatima kay amo na man to gi room-to-room, mao to nga pag abot didto sa Grade 9 nga room, nag singgit na man og kalit katong bataa, mao to na panic na sila,” said Roxas.

(I asked the adviser about what happened and I was told that the student was just quiet, but suddenly shouted when the image of the Our Lady of Fatima arrived at their classroom. We had scheduled a room-to-room visit for the Our Lady of Fatima after the first incident.)

She said their school division also approved the holding of Holy Mass at the school once a month.

“In fact, nagsugod na mi, every day ang rosary. Supposedly, ang misa magsugod na unta atong Monday unya wala may available nga pari sa parokya ba kay Holy Week na man gud, amo na lang e-schedule og next week,” Roxas said.

(We’ve started praying the Holy Rosary every day. Supposedly on Monday, we start holding the Mass but there was no available priest because it’s Holy Week, so we decided to move it next week.)
