EIGHTY-EIGHT persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the new Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Male Dormitory in Sitio Dungguan, Barangay Basak, Mandaue City, finished their elementary and secondary education through the Alternative Learning System (ALS) ladderized program on Friday, August 11.

Jail Officer 1 Robertson Caberte said the number included 25 elementary school graduates and 63 secondary school graduates.

Caberte said this was the second batch of physical ALS graduates at BJMP Mandaue since the Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic broke out in 2020.

The ALS class in the jail facility is conducted once a week with a whole day of class that will last for one year.

Although participation in the program is optional, Caberte pushed the PDLs to do so because the knowledge they will learn in class will be useful to them, especially in applying for a job, once they are released from jail. (HIC)
