The victim was identified as Patrolman Rhulin Mar Abrasaldo, who was assigned at the 705th Mobile Company, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7 based in Bayawan City.
Abrasaldo went to the area after receiving information about the shooting incident when he was shot by the still unidentified gunmen who were riding a motorcycle.
Two Bureau of Jail Management and Penology personnel assigned in Bayawan — Edwin Laag, 55, and Winchita Jamin Villuz, 56 — were shot during the incident.
Laag died, while Villuz was wounded.
The police received information that the target of the gunmen was Villuz.
There were also reports that the gunmen were looking for a businesswoman who has a store with videoke machine in the area.
Lieutenant Colonel Gerard Ace Pelare, spokesperson for Police Regional Office (PRO 7), said an investigation is being conducted by Bayawan police.
“We are looking at all possible angles ani no. As I’ve said, nothing is definite, everything is being checked upon, including the motives of the perpetrators, the backgrounds of the victim para makabalo ta and we can come up with the comprehensive investigation report,” Pelare said.
This was the second incidence to occur after San Remigio town in northern Cebu where a policeman also perished on December 4, 2022.

PRO 7 Director Police Brigadier General Bearis was dismayed by what transpired to his men.
