The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has monitored nearly 125,000 passengers in all ports nationwide from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Maundy Thursday.
In an update, the PCG said it recorded 60,237 outbound and 64,725 inbound passengers as well as inspected 642 vessels and 999 motorbancas.
“The PCG has placed its districts, stations, and sub-stations on heightened alert from March 28, 2026, to April 5, 2026, to manage the influx of port passengers,” it said.
In a separate update, the PCG said that stricter patrols were being conducted by Coast Guard Station Western Leyte to protect passengers and travelers during the Holy Week travel.
A total of 17,000 PCG personnel have been deployed across the country to ensure maritime safety and security.
Earlier, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) said that the number of passengers for the week may not reach the anticipated 2.46 million due to the oil price hikes resulting from the ongoing tensions in the Middle East. — VBL, GMA News
