Family and supporters of the late former senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. on Monday gathered at the airport of his namesake in Parañaque City to commemorate his 40th death anniversary.
According to a report of Bam Alegre on GMA Integrated News’ Unang Balita, the August Twenty One Movement held a ceremony at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 Monday morning.
Rebecca Quijano, who was on the plane with Ninoy before his assassination, recalled that when she asked him if he was nervous about going back to the Philippines after his exile, he just responded with a smile.
Airport personnel Ramon Balang said that after he saw the body of Ninoy on the tarmac, he confined himself to his house for months.
Historian Xiao Chua said the value of August 21 still remain considering the stand of Ninoy for democracy.
Ninoy’s grandson Francis Aquino thanked those who attended the ceremony.
After the ceremony at the airport, the supporters held a motorcade going to Sto. Domingo Church in Quezon City for the Holy Mass.
