The government has “established” 131 specialty centers as of December 2023, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has said.
In a video message uploaded on Monday, Marcos said the government has allotted P11.12 billion for the establishment of more specialty centers this 2024.
GMA News Online has sought comment from the Presidential Communications Office and the Department of Health on when the 131 specialty centers were established.
In August of last year, Marcos signed Republic Act No. 11959 — or An Act Establishing Specialty Centers in Department of Health Hospitals in Every Region and in Government-Owned or -Controlled Corporation Specialty Hospitals and Appropriating Funds Therefor to institutionalize the establishment of specialty and healthcare centers across the country.
Under the law, the Department of Health is tasked to establish specialty centers in its hospitals in every region and in GOCC specialty hospitals. —
