President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has appointed Associate Justice Mariflor Punzalan Castillo as the presiding judge of the Court of Appeals (CA).
Castillo replaced Justice Remedios Salazar-Fernando, who retired in September.
According to the Supreme Court (SC), Castillo took her oath of office before Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo on Wednesday.
The SC said Castillo began her legal career as an investigator in 1979 until she was appointed prosecutor in the Office of Tanodbayan in 1985.
In 1989, Castillo was promoted to Special Prosecution Officer III in the Office of the Special Prosecutor under the Office of the Ombudsman.
She then became the presiding judge of the Quezon City (QC) Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 42 from 1993 to 1999. She also served as the presiding judge of the QC Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 84 from 1999 to 2004.
The SC said Castillo also acted as a Special Court Judge of the QC RTC Branch 84 from 2001 to 2004. She was appointed as an associate justice of the CA on March 9, 2004.
According to the SC, Castillo obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science degree in 1974 and her Bachelor of Law degree in 1978 at the University of the Philippines. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
