Makabayan Senate bets visit schools in Visayas, join workers’ strike in Manila

Senatorial candidates from the Makabayan Coalition visited several provinces in the Visayas wherein they visited schools and transport terminals, while others supported workers in a protest in Manila on Wednesday.

ACT-Teachers party-list Representative France Castro went to Naisud National High School and Naisud Central School in Ibajay, Aklan. She later went to seven other public schools in Antique.

“Ang karaniwang isyu na dinaranas ng mga guro sa mga paaralang binisita namin ay ang kawalan ng sapat na klasrum at kawalan ng sapat na pondo para sa renobasyon ng kanilang mga paaralan,” said Makabayan in a statement.

(The common issues being faced by the teachers in the schools we visited are the lack of classrooms and funding for the renovation of their buildings.)

Meanwhile, fisherfolk advocate Ronnel Arambulo joined a forum at the University of the Philippines Visayas which discussed the realities of local fishermen.

Nurse and health activist Jocelyn Andamo visited West Visayas State University College of Medicine in Iloilo City where she talked about issues in the country’s healthcare system.

Kilusang Mayo Uno Secretary General Jerome Adonis, Gabriela partylist Representative Arlene Brosas, and fellow Makabayan candidates Mody Floranda and Mimi Doringo joined the workers of a company in their strike in front of the Department of Labor and Employment’s office in Intramuros, Manila.—Vince Angelo Ferreras/LDF, GMA Integrated News
