Magat Dam’s two gates opened to release water — PAGASA

Amid rains brought by a low pressure area (LPA) and the Southwest Monsoon, two gates of the Magat Dam were opened on Tuesday morning to release water, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.

In a hydrological situationer, PAGASA said the two gates discharged a total of 849.72 cubic meters per second (cms) of water as of 8 a.m. 

Meanwhile, the water level was recorded at 187.54 meters.

PAGASA warned that areas likely to be affected are Ramon, San Mateo, Aurora, Cabatuan, Luna, Reina Mercedes, Burgos, Naguilian, and Gamu in Isabela.

It said that Alfonso Lista in Ifugao may also be affected.

The weather bureau also forecast an average of 40 millimeters (mm) to 90 mm of rainfall over the basin in the next 24 hours.

PAGASA earlier said that the LPA off Eastern Samar is expected to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms across large parts of the country within the next 24 hours.

The Department of Interior and Local Government has also announced the suspension of classes and government work in some areas. — Joahna Lei Casilao/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
