Less than half of the country’s barangays have materials recovery facilities to address the reduction of trash mandated by the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
According to Emil Sumangil’s special report on “24 Oras”, there would be much less garbage in the country’s landfills if recyclables and biodegradable waste are segregated as required by the law.
Many communities, however, still do not practice solid waste segregation.
