How P3,000-a-month food credit should be spent per food group

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Wednesday started distributing electronic benefit transfer” or (EBT) cards worth P3,000 per month allowance to Food Stamp Program beneficiaries.

According to Oscar Oida’s “24 Oras” report, these are loaded with food credits for beneficiaries to purchase a select list of food commodities from the DSWD-registered or accredited local retailers.

The DSWD said that beneficiaries can use up to P1500 for carbohydrates like rice, P900 for protein such as meats, and P600 for vegetables and fruits per month.

“Upang sa ganun po kapag nagpeprepare sila ng pagkain sa bahay ay kumpleto po at balanse po yung nutrisyon ng pagkain na nakukuha nila,” said Rommel Aguilar, Nutritionist and Dietitian V, DSWD.

The beneficiaries also attended a nutrition education seminar before shopping.

“Upang sa ganon ay mabigyan ng tamang gabay sa wastong pagpili ng pagkaing lulutuin natin sa bahay,” Aguilar added.

The pilot stage will last for six months for the chosen beneficiaries. The DSWD reminded the beneficiaries that cash cards are non-transferable. —Sherylin Untalan/NB, GMA Integrated News
