DSWD warns vs. fake cash, rice distribution program

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Wednesday warned the public against a fake cash and rice distribution program circulating online.

In a statement on Facebook, DSWD said there is no “CARD Program” that allegedly distributes P5,000 and 10 kilos of rice under the agency.

A certain Facebook post claimed that beneficiaries under the CARD Program are entitled to receive the said benefits.

It even advised the public to report any irregularities or inadequacies in the benefits they got to the authorities.

“Pinapaalalahanan ang publiko na mag-ingat at huwag magpalinlang sa mga posts na hindi mula sa opisyal na Facebook page ng DSWD,” DSWD said.

(The public is reminded to be cautious and not to be fooled by posts that are not from the official DSWD Facebook page.)

It urged the public to report any suspicious posts or messages to any DSWD official communication channels or grievance hotline to verify the information.

The public may reach out to DSWD through 0917-110-5686 / 0917-827-2543/ 0919-911-6200 or through inquiry@dswd.gov.ph.

In 2023, DSWD and the House of Representatives launched the CARD program to distribute financial and rice assistance initially to 10,000 poor families in Metro Manila.

In the program, each beneficiary would receive at least P2,000, of which P950 would be for a 25-kilo sack of rice and the remaining for other food items. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/LDF, GMA Integrated News
