DepEd: 16.8 million students now enrolled

At least 16.8 million students nationwide have been enrolled so far a week before classes begin in public schools on August 29, data by the Department of Education (DepEd) showed.

Based on DepEd’s Learner Information System for School Year 2023-2024, a total of 16,816,221 students in both public and private schools were enrolled as of August 21.

Calabarzon recorded the most number of enrollees at 2,858,606.

This was followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) with 2,220,470 enrollees, and the Central Luzon with 1,868,161.

Least number of enrollees were logged in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) at 196,884.

Enrollees this year are expected to increase to around 28.8 million, DepEd spokesperson Undersecretary Michael Poa earlier said.

In the previous academic year, there were 28.4 million students enrolled in 44,931 public schools and 12,162 private schools across the country.

The opening of classes for School Year 2023-2024 in all public schools will be on August 29, while private schools may opt to open classes on any day starting the first Monday of June but not later than the last day of August.

The enrollment period will run until August 26. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
