Slight increases in COVID-19 positivity rate were observed in some provinces in the past week, OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David said Monday.
In Luzon, David said the positivity rate rose in Camarines Sur, Oriental Mindoro, Palawan, Quezon, Rizal, and Zambales, based on their seven-day testing from July 1 to July 8.
Oriental Mindoro saw the biggest jump in positivity rate from 5.3 percent to 17.6 percent.
Positivity rate represents the percentage of people found positive for COVID-19 among the total number of individuals tested.
Camarines Sur rose to “high” level at 20.2 percent from the previous 14.5 percent. Positivity rates also inched up in Batangas, Benguet, Laguna, Pampanga, and Pangasinan.
For Visayas and Mindanao, David said the positivity rate was also “high” in Aklan and South Cotabato, which recorded 35.3 percent and 21.4 percent, respectively.
It also rose slightly in Cebu and Negros Occidental.
The National Capital Region, however, maintained a “low” positivity rate at 4.2 percent as of July 8.
July 3 to 9 cases
Meanwhile, the Philippines registered a total of 2,510 new COVID-19 cases from July 3 to 9, 2023, the Department of Health (DOH) said.
The weekly tally is equivalent to 359 daily average cases, which is 9 percent lower than the 392 daily average cases the previous week.
The July 3-9 total is also the lowest in 12 weeks.
The 44 new severe or critical cases during the week were higher by 38 percent than the 32 cases during the previous week.
There were no deaths recorded from July 3 to 9, similar to last week.
On Monday. July 10, a total of 259 new COVID-19 cases were recorded bringing the total active tally to 6,437.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
