China Coast Guard vessel tries to ram BRP Cabra

The same China Coast Guard ship that sailed too close to the Philippine Coast Guard’s BRP Cabra on Sunday attempted to ram the smaller vessel on Monday, video provided by the PCG shows.

In a statement, the PCG said China Coast Guard (CCG) vessel 3302 continued to engage in “dangerous maneuvers” against the Cabra, this time 98.31 nautical miles off Palauig Point, Tumalog City, Zambales.

“Throughout the afternoon, CCG-3302 made multiple attempts to ram the aft of the BRP Cabra,” PCG said.

“Due to the PCG vessel’s superior maneuverability, the China Coast Guard deployed a smaller, faster vessel, CCG-21612, to further attempt to ram the PCG vessel,” it added.

Despite China’s aggressive actions, PCG said it “successfully outmatched” the Chinese vessel through its professionalism, composure, and seamanship.

“The BRP Cabra continues to shadow and challenge CCG-3302, demonstrating unwavering resolve in the face of intimidation,” PCG said.

On Sunday, the same Chinese vessel shadowed and blocked BRP Cabra about 170 nautical miles off the Zambales coast. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/BM, GMA Integrated News
