The Philippine Coast Guard’s BRP Cabra successfully held its ground against the China Coast Guard vessel 3105—a massive 130-meter ship—on Saturday despite rough sea conditions.
According to PCG statement, the 44-meter BRP Cabra maintained its position over 95 nautical miles off the coast of Zambales, braving waves as high as five meters.
The PCG continues to challenge the illegal presence of Chinese vessels in the Philippines’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), citing violations of international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the 2016 Arbitral Award.
PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan reaffirmed the country’s commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty, vowing that not an inch of Philippine territory would be conceded to foreign powers.
“We will not allow any foreign power to encroach upon our territory. The PCG will continue to deploy vessels to ensure the protection of our waters and to prevent any attempts to change the status quo,” Gavan stated. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
