Four Filipinos who presented themselves as tourists headed for Thailand were intercepted by the Bureau of Immigration at the Clark International Airport.
According to Sam Nielsen’s Sunday dzBB report, the victims, two of whom were cousins, were allegedly recruited to work as non-voice sales representatives for a call center in Koh Kong, Cambodia with a monthly salary of $800, free food, and lodging.
The recruiters ordered the travelers to pose as tourists bound for Thailand to evade authorities.
BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said that the recent spike in such cases, in which tech-savvy Filipinos have been recruited for possible scam hubs, has been worrying.
He added that there had already been hundreds of Filipinos who had fallen victim to such trafficking ploys, only to end up working for scam hubs earning poor wages and undergoing physical abuse. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
