Alyansa candidates on Pasig bet’s solo parent remark: Insensitive, very immoral

ANTIPOLO, Rizal —Four senatorial candidates of the administration’s Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas have expressed dismay over the “joke” on solo parents of a candidate for Pasig City’s lone congressional district, with two tagging it as “insensitive” and “very immoral.”

Lawyer Christian Sia, who is running for representative of the lone district of Pasig City, is currently under fire over his jokes at a recent campaign rally.

A video of him telling his audience during a campaign rally that female solo parents may sleep with him once a year went viral.

“Minsan sa isang taon ang mga solo parent na babae na nireregla at nalulungkot, minsan sa isang taon pwedeng sumiping sa akin (Solo parents may sleep with me once a year),” said Sia.

In an ambush interview, former Senator Panfilo Lacson said these remarks should be avoided, especially during election campaigns.

“I think that’s very insensitive to say the least. Kung mangangampanya ka, ito ang mga dapat mong iwasan. Napaka-unnecessary at napaka-insensitive. Hindi pangkampanya. Pambawas boto,” Lacson said.

In a separate interview, former Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III said that people should not vote for people who issue this kind of “very immoral statement.”

“Very immoral statement. That does not befit a public servant. Sa akin, they should be careful in trying to draw the attention of the people. Minsan hindi nakakabuti [kundi] nakakasama,” Sotto said.

“The other thing is they become merely either good or bad examples to the young. We should be very careful with the statements that we give. Yung mga ganong salita uncalled for…Kung ganon ang ugali mo, palagay ko mas magandang hindi ka iboto,” he added.

Meanwhile, senatorial candidate and ACT CIS Rep. Erwin Tulfo highlighted the word respect in reacting to the “joke” on solo parents.

“‘Di ba meron tayong word na… respect… Hinay-hinay siguro sa mga kandidato. Merong oras ng pagbibiro… pero tignan natin di naman lahat ng bagay joke. Kagaya n’yan medyo di na maganda,” Tulfo said.

“Tingnan muna natin kung makakasakit tayo, ‘yung biro natin. Kaya nga po ‘yung ulo natin mas mataas sa bibig natin…kahit ako medyo nababasa ko medyo di maganda, may nanay ako, may kapatid akong babae, may mga anak akong babae so parang di nga maganda parang ‘Wow sobra mo naman pogi bossing,’” he added.

Senatorial bet and outgoing Makati City Mayor Abby Binay reminded candidates to be more careful in issuing remarks.

“Ang sa akin lang naman, maging mas maingat tayo. Siguro I assume bago siyang kandidato. Ngayon, mas gustong nagva-viral dahil sa social media maliit ang mundo kaya mas maging maingat sa mga binibitawang salita,” she said.

The Commission on Elections earlier in the day issued a show-cause order against Sia, asking him to explain why he should not be filed with an election offense or disqualification for violating Comelec Resolution No. 1116, which sets the anti-discrimination and fair campaigning guidelines for the 2025 national and local elections. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
