2 reported dead due to Habagat enhanced by Goring, Hanna –OCD

Two individuals reportedly died due to the effects of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) which was enhanced by Typhoons Goring and Hanna, according to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Sunday.

OCD spokesperson Edgar Posadas said the fatalities, which were still being validated, came each from the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and Western Visayas.

He said the inclement weather has also affected more than 418,000 people all over the country.

“Lumampas na sa 418,000 na katao ang mga apektado ng combined effects ng Goring, Hanna, at Habagat. Sa families, ito ay lampas na 114,000 families in 1,469 barangays,” Posadas said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB.

At least 21,700 people or 5,100 families have also remained at 272 evacuation centers, while 30,000 people or 7,400 families were staying in other places, based on the latest situational report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

“‘Yung damaged houses, medyo tumaas ang datos natin—501 ngayon. Ninety-six ang total, 405 ang partial dito sa CAR, Region 1, 2, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, at Region 6,” Posadas said.

Damage and losses to agriculture, meanwhile, stood at P421,195,721. The damage to infrastructure amounted to P130,251,200.

Twenty-five roads and nine bridges were also not passable, according to the NDRRMC.

A total of P20,901,428 worth of assistance has been provided to Regions 1, 2, 3,4-A. 4-B, 6, CAR, and the National Capital Region.

Goring exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday.

Hanna meanwhile slightly intensified on Sunday morning while moving closer to the coast of southern Taiwan, PAGASA said in its 5 a.m. bulletin.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was raised over Batanes and the northern portion of Babuyan Group of Islands, particularly Babuyan Island and Calayan Island due to Hanna.

Hanna is enhancing the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) which is expected to bring occasional to monsoon rains over the western portion of Luzon and Antique in the next three days, PAGASA said. —KG, GMA Integrated News
