Trough of Low-Pressure Area Brings Rain to Eastern Visayas, Mindanao

A new low pressure area was spotted 980 kilometers east of southern Mindanao at 3 pm on Thursday, September 11, after the previous low pressure area off Quezon dissipated at 2 am. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the trough or extension of the new LPA will bring scattered rain and thunderstorms to Eastern Samar, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Oriental, with possible flash floods and landslides due to moderate to heavy rain at times. The LPA has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression within 24 hours. This is the 13th potential cyclone to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in 2025, with the country having already experienced 12 tropical cyclones this year, including Tropical Depression Kiko and Tropical Depression Lannie in September.
