Power consumers can expect higher transmission rates this July 2025, driven mainly by an increase in Ancillary Services (AS) rates, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). For the June 2025 billing period, both AS and NGCP’s transmission wheeling rates increased, but the surge in AS costs accounts for most of the adjustment. Overall, the equivalent average transmission rates for June 2025 rose by 5.49% to PhP1.2113/kWh from May’s PhP1.1482/kWh. This increase was primarily due to a 9.32% rise in AS rates, from PhP0.5655/kWh in May to PhP0.6182/kWh in June. AS rates cover the costs of power supplied by AS providers to stabilize the grid during power supply-demand imbalances. NGCP’s transmission wheeling rates, which are charges for delivering power, increased slightly by 0.39% from PhP0.4593/kWh in May to PhP0.4611/kWh in June. Despite the increase, NGCP emphasized that it does not earn from AS and does not benefit from price movements, with AS still accounting for the bulk of transmission charges. For the July 2025 electric bill, NGCP charges only PhP0.46/kWh for its services.
