The title of a video posted on the YouTube Channel of Balitang Pinas is claiming that the Social Security System has deposited in banks the money for the supposed P1,000 pension increase. This is false.
The SSS has not declared a pension increase, although it has announced that the December pension and 13th month pay will be released on December 1 and December 4. The schedule of the release was also reported in mainstream media.
The video is titled ATTENTION ALL SENIORS! NASA ATM ACCOUNTS NA! SSS ₱1,000 PENSION INCREASE! PWEDE NA I-WITHDRAW (Attention All Seniors! It’s already in ATM accounts! SSS P1,000 pension increase! It can be withdrawn now). It was posted on November 26, 2023.
As of November 30, it has generated 28,000 views. The YouTube channel itself has 595,000 subscribers as of the same date.
The video, however, only shows people receiving cash from unspecified sources, and uses a voice clip taken during a Senate hearing on the budget of the National Commission for Senior Citizens, among other government agencies. The voice clip specifically mentions the names of Senator Imee Marcos and NCSC Chair Franklin Quijano.
In March this year, the SSS said it was studying the possibility of a P1,000 monthly pension increase.
Any increase in SSS pension requires either an Executive Order by the President of the Philippines or an amendment to Republic Act 8282 or Social Security Law of 1997.
