Wayward truck kills 7 in N. Cotabato

Seven persons were killed while six others were injured when a ten-wheel truck plowed into a row of vehicles and houses in Makilala town, North Cotabato last Thursday.

A belated report from Makilala Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Sonny Fontanilla said the dead included a five-year-old kindergarten student identified as  Jeremiah Pamplona, and his parents identified as Joel and Cristina Pamplona.

Siargao faces water shortage as power outage continues

Water shortage has threatened to affect Siargao Island, a tourism destination in Surigao del Norte as the area continues to experience power outage that started on December 1.

Janis Medina Regino, Surigao del Norte Information Officer said local government units and residents in Siargao complained that they have run out of fuel to operate their generators and pumps needed to draw water for household consumption.

Iligan City no longer in ‘top 20’ in online sexual abuse of children

Tough law enforcement and better coordination among government agencies were credited for the lowering of cases of online sexual abuse of children in Iligan City.

Armien Aloro, chief of the Iligan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said Iligan City is no longer on the top 20 areas in the country for the highest number of such cases.

Aloro said the courts handed 133 convictions against the abusers since 2023, attributing it to better coordination with NGOs like the International Justice Mission and World Vision. (Froilan Gallardo/MindaNews)
