Marawi imposes curfew
Marawi City has imposed a strict curfew in 24 barangays classified as “Most Affected Areas” or MAA following a rash of robberies, lootings and other criminal activities in the former battleground.
Mayor Majul Gandamra signed the executive order effective July 17, 2024 setting curfew hours from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Gandamra said the curfew ordinance is applicable to individuals walking inside the MAA suspiciously at night.
He said the ordinance is not applicable for those riding their vehicles and government employees working at night.
Militants attack Army detachment in Maguindanao
Dawlah Islamiyah militants attacked an Army detachment in Shariff Saydona Mustapha town in Maguindanao del Sur, killing a soldier and wounding another last weekend.
Initial reports from the Shariff Saydona Mustapha town police said that 20 militants armed with M16 and M14 rifles attacked the detachment from both sides, killing Private First Class Rosendo Gannaban of the 99th Infantry Battalion.
The reports said the militants were led by a certain Ben Harris Salamat.
Ozamiz has new police chief
Ozamiz City has a new police commander.
Lt. Col. Harvey Abellanosa assumed command as officer-in-charge for the Ozamiz City Police Station during a turnover ceremony at the Ozamiz City Session Hall last July 18.
Abellanosa replaced police Maj. Dennis Tano, who will be reassigned to the PNP regional headquarters in Camp Alagar, Cagayan de Oro City.
