MisOr town pilgrimage site closed for the Holy Week

CAGAYAN DE ORO (MindaNews / 15 March) – The pilgrimage site Sipaka Heights in Talisayan, Misamis Oriental will be closed during the Holy Week to pave the way for the construction of a P49-million zipline, a tourism recreational infrastructure.

Talisayan Mayor Rico Taray directed devotees to hold their religious activity at the town center instead of the 500-meter or 1,640-feet high Sipaka Heights.

Yearly, some 30,000 devotees would make the climb, praying at the Stations of the Cross to the top of Sipaka heights starting on Holy Wednesday to Maundy Thursday.

Talisayan Municipal Project Management Officer in charge Christiam Bonn Gonzales said they also prepared a nearby alternative site, Mt. Kibuntod, which has a steeper 2-kilometer ascent to its site.

NPA leader, 3 comrades, yield in Surigao del Norte

CAGAYAN DE ORO (MindaNews / 15 March) – The military said a top New People’s Army leader and three of her companions surrendered to the 30th Infantry Battalion in Surigao del Norte this week.

Brig Gen Arsenio Sadurai, commander of the 901st Infantry Brigade identified the NPA leader as Juanita Leyson, regional party secretary of the NPA Sub-regional Committee of the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee.

Sadural said Leyson brought three of her companions identified as Rejem Pertos, Jezalyn Platil and Pegi Diaz.

Rehab of bridge in Zamboanga Sibugay completed

CAGAYAN DE ORO (MindaNews / 15 March) – The Department of Public Works and Highways has completed the rehabilitation of a key bridge linking the Lanao provinces and the cities of Pagadian and Zamboanga.

DPWH Region 9 Director Cayamombao Dia said the rehabilitation of the 69..8-meter bridge in Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay assures the safety of vehicles plying the highway.
