Bridge planned to link Surigao and Leyte

A bridge has been planned for construction that would link Surigao City, Nonoc Island, Dinagat Island to Leyte.

The CARAGA Regional Development Council has endorsed the P167-billion project and would present it to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for approval in April this year.

Gemima Olam, director of the National Economic and Development Authority in the Caraga Region, said the bridge project will provide a resilient, seamless and inclusive transportation system in the region.

Olam said it would also reduce the inflation rate and decrease the travel time for goods and services.

“With an average of 20 typhoons per year and limited access to transportation, the delivery of goods and services are always affected during extreme weather events,” she said.

Olam said once approved, the project would be implemented in 2025 to 2040.
