Galvez urges Bangsamoro Parliament to pass revenue, indigenous peoples codes

Secretary Carlito Galvez, the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity, urged the Bangsamoro Parliament to pass two legislative codes that would solidify the peace gains.

In a statement, Galvez said the parliament should pass the Revenue Code and the Indigenous Peoples Code, which it pledged to pass within a year before the parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

The BARMM parliament earlier passed the Bangsamoro Civil Service Code on May 18, 2021, the Bangsamoro Electoral Code on March 9, 2023 and the Bangsamoro Local Governance Code on September 28, 2023.

400 sacks of imported rice confiscated in Tawi-Tawi

Police authorities in Tawi-Tawi confiscated 400 sacks of imported rice worth P508,000, which they found abandoned on the side of the road in the capital town of Bongao on Tuesday.

Brig. Gen. Prexy Tanggawohn, regional director of the Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR), said the residents in Barangay Pagasinan declined knowledge of the rice sacks when local police asked who the owner was.

Tanggawohn said the sacks of rice were turned over to the Bureau of Customs in Bongao for proper disposition.

DOTr looking for experts to study public transport in Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said it will accept contracts for a detailed study on how to improve public transportation system in the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Zamboanga.

In a press statement, the DOTr said it is offering consultants P61.23 million for Cagayan de Oro and P60.4 million for Zamboanga to study their public transport systems.

The detailed studies for Zamboanga and Cagayan de Oro are part of a P242-million package to study other cities in Luzon and Visayas.
