Mindanao is shifting toward economic recovery as stability takes hold, with the island being “practically insurgency-free” according to Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) Secretary Leo Tereso Magno. This is a significant turning point, built on years of communities, security forces, and local leaders working together to reclaim safety. Most municipalities, cities, provinces, and regions in Mindanao have been declared insurgency-free, with the Davao Region being declared insurgency-free on September 19, 2022, and other regions following suit. The Eastern Mindanao Command has neutralized nearly 600 NPA members, and the 10th Infantry Division has reported 705 surrenders, arrests, or casualties, collapsing rebel structures in several areas. As a result, investor confidence is fueled, with economic officers from partner countries and development institutions increasing their visits to the region. Economic data shows that Mindanao is on an upward path, with inflation returning to acceptable rates and contribution to national GDP improving. Business activity is picking up in agricultural sites, growth centers, and logistics corridors as communities regain stability. MinDA is preparing for broader development efforts in 2026, including infrastructure projects, power and transport networks, and digital connectivity. Foreign investors have shown interest in agribusiness modernization, renewable energy, processing zones, and port development. The human side of the peace dividend is also being felt, with farmers returning to their fields, markets reopening, and former combatants entering livelihood programs. As 2026 approaches, leaders, businesses, and communities across Mindanao are preparing to turn hard-won peace into sustained economic transformation.
