Magnitude 5.5 earthquake hits Surigao Sur

MALAYBALAY CITY (MindaNews / 23 December) – A magnitude 5.5 earthquake occurred 59 kilometers northeast of Lingig, Surigao del Sur at 10:22 pm on Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said in an advisory issued 10 minutes after the tremor.

The earthquake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 10 km, Phivolcs said.

Intensity III was recorded in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur while Instrumental Intensity IV was recorded in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro.

A magnitude 7.4 earthquake hit Surigao del Sur on Dec. 3 that generated hundreds of aftershocks. (MindaNews)
