MANILA, Philippines — A low pressure area (LPA) has been spotted off General Santos City in Mindanao but is less likely to become a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, the state-run weather agency said Sunday. Estimated at 210 kilometers east of the city, the LPA was embedded along intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), said weather specialist Daniel James Villamil of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa). Pagasa said that the weather disturbance has been affecting Caraga, Davao Region, Northern Mindanao, Eastern Visayas, Albay, Masbate, and Sorsogon where cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms would prevail. Also, Pagasa said the rest of Mindanao, the rest of Visayas, and Palawan would be experiencing similar weather patterns due to ITCZ – an imaginary line where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres meet. Another weather system – shear line – has also been bringing overcast skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Batanes and Babuyan Islands, it added. Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon would likely have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies – winds that bring humid and warm weather, Pagasa said.
