The Philippine Coast Guard suspended sea travel from Surigao City to San Ricardo and other Southern Leyte ports on Tuesday due to strong winds and rough seas caused by an approaching “low pressure area” near Mindanao. Ensign Roy Christopher Orillaneda, station commander of the Coast Guard in Surigao City, stated the order took effect at 9 a.m. and will remain in place as Surigao del Norte experiences adverse weather. The suspension applies to boats with 700 gross tonnage and below. Meanwhile, Mayor Khymer Olaso of Zamboanga City suspended all classes on Tuesday due to heavy rains and thunderstorms from a “low pressure area.” Residents in low-lying and coastal areas were advised to take precautions, following flash floods in Barangay TumaGa on Monday that displaced 407 families.
