The Schools Division Office of Lanao del Sur II is urging a comprehensive investigation into the killing of teacher Danilo Barba and demanding accountability for those responsible. Lanao del Sur police director Caezar Cabuhat reported that the 34-year-old victim, originally from Trento, Agusan del Sur but teaching in Balabagan, was shot in the head by an unidentified gunman while walking to school around 8 a.m. The Schools Division Office condemned the “senseless and violent act” that claimed the life of an educator dedicated to serving learners and the community, emphasizing that society has no place for brutality, especially against those nurturing others through education. In a statement signed by Dr. Rubina Mimbantas Macabunar, the office mourned Barba’s loss alongside his family, colleagues, and students, honoring his contributions as a teacher and public servant who worked with integrity and compassion, and called for swift justice. Bangsamoro Minister of Basic, Higher and Technical Education Mohagher Iqbal also condemned the killing, stating that teachers are community pillars whose safety must be protected, and described Barba’s death as “both painful and unacceptable.” (Froilan Gallardo / MindaNews)
