KASANAG, a Visayan word meaning brightness, is the place where the Kaugmaran Pagpagahum Foundation Inc. (KPFI) was started by a group of socially oriented professionals who aim to uplift the quality of life of the marginalized urban poor in Davao City. The foundation was established on November 5, 1991, and is committed to enabling the poor to empower themselves.
KPFI was initially a multi-sectoral non-government organization that advocated for human rights in the early 1980s. The organization worked closely with the city government, particularly with then-mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte, to address the needs of evacuees and fire victims in Davao City.
The foundation’s programs include value formation, basic literacy, and scholarships, which provide financial assistance to children and their families who are members of the organization. They also offer Day Care learning for non-members, socio-economic livelihood, advocacy for women, and ecology, among others.
On December 20, 2025, the community gathered at the Kasanag Training Center in Barangay Sto. Nino, Tugbok District, Mintal, for a Christmas party. The event started with a mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. Emmanuel M. Gonzaga, followed by a simple party where gifts in kind were distributed and raffle prizes were given away. The party was hosted by Joseph Macaylas, Milagros S. Teves, Alex Mandin, Dr. Ronald Tangente, and Girlie G. Yap.
