DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 17 December) – The center of tropical depression ‘Kabayan’ is estimated to be 290 kilometers east southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur as of 8 p.m. Sunday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its Tropical Cyclone Bulletin 6.
The tropical depression is moving westward at 10 km/h, with maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 70 km/h and is expected to make landfall along the coast of Surigao del Sur or Davao Oriental Sunday evening or early Monday morning.
PAGASA forecasts ‘Kabayan’ to be over the coastal waters of Lingig in Surigao del Sur at 5 a.m. on Monday, December 18 and over the coastal waters of Lazi in Siquijor at 5 p.m.
Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal 1 has been raised over 17 provinces in five Mindanao regions: Caraga Region: Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte including Siargao – Bucas Grande Group, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte); Davao region: Davao de Oro, Davao Oriental (Cateel, Boston, Baganga, Manay, Caraga), Davao del Norte (Santo Tomas, New Corella, Braulio E. Dujali, City of Panabo, Asuncion, City of Tagum, Talaingod, Carmen, Kapalong, San Isidro), Davao City; Northern Mindanao: Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental; Region 12 or Soccsksargen: North Cotabato (Arakan, Carmen, Banisilan, Alamada, President Roxas, Kabacan, Matalam, Antipas, Magpet); and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao: Lanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte (Buldon, Barira, Matanog).
