JoyRide, Maxim operations in CDO illegal, say LTRFB, city government

For lack of proper permits, the operations of JoyRide and Maxim in Cagayan de Oro are illegal, according to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and the city government.

In a radio interview with iFM CDO, Cagayan de Oro Councilor Gen. Romeo Calizo confirmed that Joyride and Maxim, which offer ride-hailing services around the city, did not have proper permits and failed to coordinate with the local government.

Calizo said that the two transport network vehicle companies (TNVCs) merely assumed that they could operate on the basis of their national permit even without any coordination with the local government unit.

For this, Calizo said, JoyRide and Maxim have been reprimanded by the LTFRB for misinterpreting the law.

“That is wrong understanding. JoyRide and Maxim should first secure a resolution (stating) that the seat of CDO interposes no objection for them to operate,” the local legislator said.

“They should respect the process,” he emphasized.

Despite the lack of proper permits, JoyRide is reportedly recruiting drivers and has launched various promotional ads, Calizo said, but he cautioned the public to be wary of the TNVCs for their own safety.
