Helper dead as truck turned turtle in Davao City mishap

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 15 January) – A truck helper died on the spot as a wing van truck smashed into two barangay vehicles parked in front of the barangay hall of Marilog Proper here before dawn Monday.

In its initial investigation, the Marilog police station said the truck was transporting animal feeds when it crashed at the two barangay vehicles at 1:20 a.m.

The victim, who was not identified as of posting time, was pulled out from the truck three hours later and was declared dead on the spot by Central 911 rescuers.

Police investigation said the truck was traveling from Bukidnon to Davao City with the driver allegedly losing control of the vehicle upon reaching a curved section of the road and then crashed into the two barangay vehicles parked in front of the barangay hall.

The truck driver, identified as Romeo Monteverde Jr., 40, and his helper were stuck inside the truck after it turned turtle.

A resident of San Fernando, Bukidnon, Monteverde was rescued at around 2:30 a.m. and was immediately transported to the Southern Mindanao Medical Center.

An electric post was by toppled by the accident, causing damage to cables and electric wires in the area.

Fermin Edillon, Davao Light and Power Company community relations manager, said in a text message that power was interrupted in some parts of the village following the accident.
