Gender-fair language is being promoted in government institutions in Northern Mindanao to maintain a professional and safe workplace culture. Applying gender-fair language in communicating with peers and clientele is not only about choosing appropriate words but espousing an inclusive and safe environment among people with different gender orientations, according to lawyer Pauline Mae Araneta-Drilon. She emphasized that it is about transforming the way we think, act, and relate to one another, creating a culture where respect is not optional, but the norm. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 10 led a workshop on gender-fair language as part of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Children, with communities playing a role in upholding respect and dignity through gender-fair languages. Other government agencies and local government units in the region also organized activities, including a Psychological First Aid training in Camiguin province and a Gender and Development activity in Iligan City.
