Berde Renewables to Energize KCC Malls and Mindanao Agricultural Facility with Sustainable Power

MANILA, Philippines — Berde Renewables Inc., a portfolio company of US-based I Squared Capital, has signed a power deal to deliver clean power to three shopping centers and an agro-industrial park in Mindanao. Berde Renewables has finalized an 8.4-megawatt (MW) peak solar power purchase agreement with KCC Malls and Biotech Farms. The agreement will facilitate the delivery of solar power to two KCC Malls in South Cotabato and another one in Zamboanga. The deal will likewise energize the operations of Biotech Farms’ agro-industrial facility in South Cotabato. “Berde Renewables has been building momentum in the country’s clean energy transition, and today we are accelerating that shift to a new peak,” company president and co-founder Patrick Zhu said. “This partnership shows how industries can work together to make renewable energy deliver real economic value and lasting impact for communities,” he added. Under this strategic tie-up, Berde Renewables is set to fully finance the solar project and oversee its development, operations and maintenance. Once operational, the project is expected to produce around 13 million kilowatt-hours of clean power annually, resulting in an estimated P5.8 million in monthly energy savings. “By integrating clean energy into our operations, we are elevating our standards in retail sustainability while ensuring that our malls remain resilient, efficient and aligned with the long-term needs of the communities we serve,” KCC Malls CEO Arvin Chan said. Biotech Farms renewable energy director Rainnyl Chiang, meanwhile, said the partnership reinforces their commitment to “circular economy principles while ensuring stable, cost-efficient power for our business.” With the backing of I Squared Capital, Berde Renewables was able to develop 45.7-MW of solar projects in the Philippines. Its portfolio includes 31-MW of under-construction projects and a 144-MW development pipeline.
