THE City Library and Information Center (CLIC) has urged barangays to set up their own reading centers.
Salome Enoc, center head, said the barangay reading centers are important because the CLIC has continued to distribute books as about 300 to 500 books are allotted to each of these centers.
Enoc said barangays must have their own reading centers so they could receive these reading materials. “This is a call to all barangay captains to open their own reading center, maski’g nook lang,” Enoc said.
“We are aiming for a child-friendly city, and one of the components is for us to build a library in our reading centers,” she added, pointing out that the CLIC is even willing to help in establishing the centers.
Last year, reading centers in 15 far-flung barangays and an elementary school in Marilog District received books.
Enoc said the barangay reading centers will benefit from the reading material donations to the city library. “Kaning mga donations na gipanghatag diri sa atoang mga generous Dabawenyos, we are sharing this to the reading centers. Hinay-hinay nato ning gihatag sa ilaha kay usahay naa na may mga duplicate, triplicate diri so atoa ning i-share didto sa ilaha,” she said.
She also urged residents to support these reading centers by visiting them or by donating reading materials.
