A prayer rally is set to take place on Sunday, Sept. 21, in Davao City, which is expected to attract a large crowd, including supporters of former President Rodrigo R. Duterte. The event will feature 100 heads of lechon baka (roasted cow) and other food, courtesy of unknown sponsors. However, it is uncertain whether the rally will remain a prayer-focused event or morph into a “street party.” The same rally is also planned to take place in Metro Manila, where organizers are advocating for a “people power” movement to drive the current President out of office.

The success of this movement depends on the ability to generate a large number of participants and convince the Armed Forces of the Philippines to withdraw their support for the President. One possible option to achieve this goal is for the organizers of the Davao City prayer rally to join their counterparts in Metro Manila. However, for now, none of the organizers have expressed a willingness to cover the transportation costs for participants to travel to Metro Manila.

As a result, the fact that the participants are in different locations across the country may hinder the main objective of the mass action. Meanwhile, Vice President Sara Duterte has called for an investigation into former Speaker Martin Romualdez regarding allegations of corrupt practices in flood control projects. To achieve this, VP Duterte could ask the Duterte bloc in the Senate to initiate moves to pressure the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee to invite Romualdez as a resource person, potentially leading to a declaration of contempt and his detention.
