A woman was found bloodied and lying down in a grassy area in Las Piñas around noontime on Monday.
According to Nico Waje’s report on “Saksi,” the victim suffered 25 stab wounds. She was brought to a hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
A security guard who witnessed part of the incident said he heard a woman screaming for help.
The guard immediately reported the incident to the police nearby but noticed the man trailing behind him.
He said he tried to keep the man from fleeing but the latter evaded him.
Las Piñas Police later identified a person of interest after a message popped up on the victim’s cellphone during the investigation.
Police Major Knowme Sia, head of the Investigation and Detective Management Section of Las Piñas Police, said the sender sent a ‘Goodbye.’
At the time, police had yet to confirm the victim’s identity. The breakthrough came when an online shopping delivery rider called her phone to coordinate the delivery of a parcel.
The parcel was addressed to the victim identified as Janilyn Quinto, a resident of Pasay City.
The sender of the text was then identified as the victim’s husband.
The suspect was brought to the police station, where the security guard positively identified him. He declined to provide a statement during the investigation. —NB, GMA Integrated News
